Personal Stories about Going Natural
Every head has a story. As women of the world we have the prerogative to at least one hairstyle-gone-terribly-bad.
Most of the time we don’t even have the slightest idea what we do to our dear follicles that we adore let alone be aware that we abuse them.
So since the beginning of this community we asked members to share their story. Sharing is caring.
Some of us went natural because our hair was coming out, some just wanted a change of style and others just had enough of the whole process of relaxing.
Our reasons for going-natural may sound the same in general but every transitioning is personal and different.
To read the about the different experiences is encouraging and inspiring, so be our guest and read the stories.

January 2011. I realized relaxers and chemical products damaged my hair intermitently.my hair achieved a certain length then it would brake off. I transitioned my hair. It took 6 months for my relaxed hair to shed away.
Going natural and staying natural was a HUGE step towards accepting myself. Basically I didn’t realize just how much of myself I hadn’t really accepted until I went natural
The hardest part of my journey was setting a regimen and sticking with it. The best part was watching my hair grow and learning how versatile natural hair can be.
I went natural on February 19, 2011. I went natural because I was tired of having damaged hair with my relaxers; it was time for me to make a change. I went Natural by shaving all of my hair off!

About two years before my big chop. I started to think about going natural after browsing natural hair forums, but I had zero support from family & friends. In October 2008, I finally decided that I was tired of the relaxers and needed a change! I had my last relaxer on October 18, 2008 and […]
The hardest part of my journey was learning the dynamics of natural hair care while disregarding all of the myths that I had heard all of my life regarding natural hair.
The worst part of my journey was in 1998. My family and peers were giving me negative comments about my hair. Having natural hair was not “NORMAL” that’s why I relaxed my hair off and on all those years. But later on in my journey, I decided to write a book. You can purchase the […]
The worst part was deciding how to start… I tried just cutting my hair shorter and then gradually cuttin g off the permed hair until I was all natural ,but in the end I just chopped off all my hair and wore a boy cut until my hair grew into an afro. The best part? […]
I’ve been natural all my life, thanks to a mother who never permed my hair. I give her a tribute at the beginning of each of my natural hair journey videos:
I went natural in September 2006. The main reason I went natural was because I liked the look of natural hair, and I was tired of my hair breaking off from relaxers and hair coloring. Not to mention, I was also curious of what my natural hair looked like because as long as I remembered, […]
When, why how did you go natural? I went natural in 2007 at the request of my boyfriend at the time and in efforts to save money and stop damaging my hair. I transitioned by letting my hair grow out and cutting the perm off an inch or two at a time.
My last relaxer was in February 2005. I transitioned for a year and BC’d in February of 2006. I’ve never looked back or regretted my decision. I decided to go natural mainly because I wanted to see if my hair would grow longer and be healthier while natural as opposed to being relaxed. What was […]
I never really had a decision to go natural, I’ve always dreamed about wearing my hair natural so I’d sometimes wear braids to substitute my desire but It wasn’t until sophomore year of college that my dream of going natural would become a reality. I was neglecting my hair and it started to break […]
August 2009, always felt right Looking back, has your perception of your hair or black hair in general changed? No change of my thoughts. I have always admire natural hair yet my up bring was relaxed/chemically treated hair was the only way. Now that I am natural I love my hair and will NEVER relax. […]
