It’s been a rocky, rocky year. Trump, Brexit, Racism’s ugly head, not just in America but as we’ve seen also in the Netherlands with the Black Pete issue (see My story of Thanksgiving this 2016) and on a personal note My sister’s transition. Now more than ever, we should plan for a better 2017. So yes, I got started and here is what’s in store for next year.
Starting with honoring and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, Going Natural will open a new exhibit Black History Month showing that Black Follicles Matter too. For this exhibition I need your stories if you’ve ever been rejected for a job or by anyone because of your hair. I truly welcome all stories. Just click the contact form to share.
The exhibition will last a whole month and it be fabulous with lots of special events. You are invited so mark your calendars: February 1st Bad Hair Uprooted with the Black Follicles Matter Exhibition in Brooklyn.
Of course Going Natural will also continue the fabulous Hair Show (Report: The Back to the Future of my Roots Natural Hair show) that sets the stage for Black hair in fashion. We are planning it even bigger this time at the International African Arts Festival this year on the 4th of July at Commodore Barry Park. Be prepared. If you are a model or a stylist who wants to participate, get in touch. You can never be too early.
2017 is the anniversary of kroeshaar.com, the Dutch verson of going-natural.com, a site I built to support my debut book and the first Dutch publication about natural hair care. It was in 2002 that I started the first ever hair website in the Netherlands that also became the first ever hair webshop. That is more than a decade ago, 15 years to be exact and as you can imagine, it’s going to be party time! It is really to early to spill all the beans but I want you to stay tuned. It is gong to be marvelously outrageous.
For now, I wish you happy holidays and a healthy blissful 2017.
