I anxiously squirmed in my seat that cozy April night in the living room of my Brooklyn apartment, waiting for my King to finally press the clippers to my scalp and curve down the nape of my neck. Today was the day I had been contemplating for some months when I would finally shave off all of my hair and rid myself of the constant pulling, burning, hiding and stressing over just the handful of hair that had grown since the last pixie style I’d been rocking.
To give back to her loyal following, Mireille Liong founder of going-natural.com, plans a free photo shoot to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the growing online community that now exceeds 28.000 members. I use to be afraid of Natural hair, and I use to wonder what will people think of me if I went natural. I came to realize that It didn’t matter what people thought of me. I had to make a choice, did I want to have a relaxer and be in bondage, or did I want to be natural and free? I chose to be natural and free. On February 19, 2011 I decided to go natural. I did a major Big Chop by shaving all of my hair off. I felt like it was time for a new start. From that day, I made a vow that I would always love my natural hair. Going through my natural journey had an emotional effect on me because I started to receive negative comments from people on the street. During my journey, I started to wear wigs because I started to feel embarrassed. In the 5th month of my journey, I looked in the mirror and I told myself that I was beautiful and I didn’t have to hide under this wig anymore! I took my wig off and flaunted my hair freely and naturally. I still receive negative stares and comments from people, but I didn’t care anymore because my hair does not define my personality! I rocked my natural hair like the plus size queen I was and still am. Now it is March 27, 2012, and it has been one year and one month since I have been natural! I am loving it so much because my hair is healthy and I am free. I am no longer afraid of being natural, and I would recommend any woman to go natural. It is a beautiful thing, and there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. To all my ladies out there, I just want to let you know that there is nothing wrong with being natural. Ladies don’t be ashamed of being natural, plus sized, tall, short, or skinny. Being you is all that matters, and nobody can ever make you inferior without your consent. Don’t be afraid to shine, don’t be afraid to speak out, and never be afraid to be yourself. You are the child of a king, and that king in Jesus Christ. Our imperfections are what makes us perfect. We are all beautiful, so don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. May God bless all of you, and keep all of you safe! I will write some more about my journey, and other topics that I come up with. So until next time, take care and be blessed. Always remember, if anyone ever has anything negative to say, just look at them, smile and say, “I am natural, I am Free, and I am Me!”

These three words define me more than anyone will ever know. It feels so good to be able to live these words everyday of my life. I am free to live, love and to be natural. I know what it is to be restrained. I know what it is to be controlled. I know what it is to be abused.
At 29 years of age and a mother of four beautiful children, I have finally reached a point of freedom and happiness. I was once the victim of an abusive relationship. One that also targeted my natural hair. I was told that it was ugly, that it was anything but a thing of beauty. Sadly I began to believe it.

Does your head need a detox to extract toxins from the scalp and eradicate the strands from dirt, residue and product buildup?
I am close to my 3 month mark perm free!! I am getting anxious to do my BC…had planned to transition for about a year first, but I don’t think I can wait! I enjoying looking at my new growth and finding products that will help enhance its softness, overall health, and curl pattern. At this point it is a little taxing to work with the two textures; though I feel I do a great job with curly twist outs that are set on rollers…LOVE to rock my curly faux fro!! lol (as seen on my profile image.)
Wash or co-wash my hair twice a week currently…though if I BC, would wash every day potentially. May be looking into doing a mini chop soon. If so I plan to go to a natural hair stylist that can provide tips, other product recommendations, and encouragement along my journey.
I haven’t been to my regular stylist in over a month…she seemed a little resistant to my going natural…number one factor IMO is because she is NOT a natural hair stylist. I got tired of hearing comments like “girl I couldn’t do it…” or “it’s not for me…” or “man, your hair is LONG, imagine how much longer it would be if you got a perm…I’m just saying…” Don’t get me wrong..I LOVED my stylist, but in a new journey with natural hair you NEED support!! That’s all I am saying, I believe everyone is entitled to the right to do as they please with their tresses! I do! I have worn a perm for years, enjoyed a head full of long, thick, healthy hair too! I am just ready to enjoy MY NATURAL long, thick, curly, healthy hair as well! I love the idea of NOT having to run from the weather!! lol
Wish me luck and I will continue to post!! I just happened upon this website and am SO glad…I feel like every day with my hair is exciting and I want to talk about it!! “MyBlog” is perfect…now I don’t have to subscribe to another one any time soon!!
Check me out on youtube…same name!!
Blessings always!!!

Hey Kinky Ladies.
I am currenlty on the hunt for new styles for free form hair. I currently wear a twist out mostly everyday. I get my hair styled sometime with a blow out, mohawk or flexi rods. I need something new and fresh.
Any ideas? Any pictures would be great!
Thanks!
