Alicia Transitioning Thoughts Natural Hair Story, transitioning, From Relaxed to Natural, Going natural 0
Today, June 27th, I became 100% natural. A week ago I did a “semi-big chop” in which I cut off about 3-4 inches and left about 1-2 inches of relaxed ends. I didn’t feel I was ready to cut all the relaxer out and leave my hair TWA short. My last relaxer was in March, so I had less than an inch of new growth. Originally I had planned to have my hair in this transition phase until my new growth grew out at least 2 inches. But during the week I found that I couldn’t do anything with my hair because the relaxed ends were in the way! If I went out, I wore a wig because my actual hair looked like frizzy crap (the ends, since I was not using heat to style).
So this morning I all the ends off and now I have a neat, short, texturized-looking hairstyle. I am so confident in it, that I went to Walmart in the afternoon–without covering it with a wig! My husband’s cool with it too. This morning he told me to “always keep it natural.” He’s not really used to me with short hair, but he knows its only a temporary means to an end as my hair continues to grow. I’m going to visit my parents in a few days. We shall see what their reaction is….they weren’t very supportive in 2006 during my first natural attempt…
But I’m doing this for me because I believe it is right. I’ll post some pics before the week is out.
