Brooklyn, NY March 31st – The book Going Natural, How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair by author Drs. Mireille Liong-A-Kong ranks nr. 1 on amazon.com in the category “Hair Care and Styling”.
As a Social Entrepreneur who holds a Master Degree in Information Technology, Liong started a digital revolution with her book and supporting website going-natural.com. At the time the concept of launching a website to support a book was very new but the subject of Natural Hair was also controversial.
Liong’s book came out in a time when natural hairstyles were still considered unacceptable. At the same time Black women were tired of chemical straighteners that caused relaxer-induced alopecia. This is a hair loss condition caused by straightening that affects 73% of African American women*.
Overcoming relaxer induced alopecia herself, Liong published her book as a guide to help women transitioning to natural hair and devoted her IT expertise to improving the health of Black women’s hair and scalps.
Besides her book and the Going Natural Hair Care line that is taking off internationally, Liong is also known for her social web and networking projects like America’s Next Natural Model, creating a following of more than 80,000 members and fans supporting her goal. America’s Next Natural Model, an online pageant that promotes natural beauty, starts its sixth season this October.
With the growing interest in natural hair around the world, Going Natural, How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair is the first hair book chosen to be translated in French. The French publication will be launched in May in Paris at Boucles ‘d Ebene, the largest expo for Black businesses in Europe. Besides signing books, Liong is also scheduled to teach a lecture.
