Hair Pudding
I used this pudding to do double strand twists. My hair was always shiny and soft. When I take the twists out, for a twistout, my hair is so luxuriously soft.

One day after all the confusion had settled, I was looking at the going-natural site and said to myself, you know what? I just may do it! Why not? I was lucky enough to have gone from saying, “That could be me” to “That could’ve been me.” What an eye opener! I thought about the […]
Growing up I was always a bit of an oddball. What some folks might call eccentric. But I suppose this came from me looking at the people around me and realizing that none of them were anything like me.
Ever walked through a local department store and saw those pretty little black girls on a box of perm and was in awe. Neither a stubborn strand nor a split end ever popped off the heads of those pretty smiling faces.
“Eventually I knew precisely what hair wanted: it wanted to grow, to be itself, to attract lint, if that was its destiny, but to be left alone by anyone, including me, who did not love it as it was.” – Alice Walker
Like many other black women, relaxing my hair was entering a rite of passage into womanhood. In the fourth grade, I stopped pressing/hot combing my hair after my hairdresser asked me if I wanted a perm to avoid my hair reverting to frizz.
The earliest memories of hair I have are surrounded with a lot of grief and effort. No one in my (mom’s) side of the family had hair like mine and although I was never made fun of ….
My hair story…well it’s an interesting story to say the least. My story began when I was around thirteen years old, that’s when I first received a perm. My mother wouldn’t allow me to get a perm until then because she said I was too young! I finally begged and begged and was able to […]
Well, my hair journey started way back when I was very young. My first experience with chemicals was a "blow-out." LOL Of course that was also the first the time my hair fell out too. Next was the Jheri curl. I guess I was about age 11 or so. Between curls, perms, and texturizers, I've actually been chemically challenged for […]
Boy did I make a mistake. I went to this girl who had been highly praised by some girls I knew. I looked her up and made an appointment. Her name was Angel. Whew! Well, she applied the "supa" and sat down in the chair in front of me. I was like, what's really going on? […]
January 3, 2007, 1:13 pm. My name is Tiana Tamara Townsell and this is my Hair Story: My parents raised me to love myself and my mother always instilled in me the beauty of my hair. She would tell me how thick, beautiful, and healthy my hair was EVERY time she did it. She […]
The earliest memories of hair I have are surrounded with a lot of grief and effort. No one in my (mom's) side of the family had hair like mine and although I was never made fun of I never felt good about my hair unless it was blowdried straight. This only happened on holidays, and […]
I have been natural for about 6 years now and I do not plan on going back. I wear a straw set quite regularly and when I want a change, I sometimes straigthen my hair (with a hot comb) and wear a flip. In the summer, I may sport a short sassy wig. I love […]
