Back to the Future of our Roots – A Natural Hair Show shedding the shackles of Black Follicles to rocket launch the endless beauty of Natural hairstyles.
This is the goal of Going-Natural.com’s second Natural Hair show that will be held on the 4th of July from 4 pm to 5 pm at the International African Arts Festival in Commedore Barry Park in Brooklyn, NY.
Seven of the top natural hairstylists from New York will showcase intricate Natural Hairstyles that mirror the history of Black hair in America. Still stereotyped and unaccepted in the workplace, Cornrows, Afros and Dreadlocks, allowed more than just Black follicles to survive.
During enslaved times African braid styles represented maps to flee plantations and functioned as a hiding place for seeds to guarentee food for a people on the run, no matter where they would land.
Now that 73% of Black women are battling relaxer induced alopecia, Black strands need to overcome more than just the rampage hair loss caused by hazardous straightening chemicals and bad weave practices. Natural hairstyles have to turn heads to break stereotypes and proof that they are more than worthy of equal strand rights.
To overcome all adversaries related to our hair, we need to start at the root to begin creating a healthy perception of Black hair, says Drs. Mireille Liong, founder of going-natural.com and owner of Going Natural hair care products. We can’t have healthy hair without a healthy perception of hair. The past clearly proofs that our follicles mirror our history. Our hairstyles are a representation of who we are and where we stand so the fierce urgency to catch-up is now.
The Back-to-the-Future-of-Our-Roots Natural Hair Show will not only portray where we stand. The outstanding natural hairstyles of gifted hairstylists will break stereotypes and take the perception of African strands to the next level, outlining the bright and shining future of Black follicles.
