Modeling is an industry where black women have always been on the back burner. We are slowly but surely making our presence known to the industry. Models like Beverly Johnson, Alec Wek and Iman have been able to show the world our wide array of beautiful features. The fact is that because of the complexity of our ancestors, there is still lots of beauty to show this world of ours. We are all beautiful and come in many shades, sizes, and backgrounds. Let’s give them a taste of just what we are working with!!!
My goal in this weeks challenge is to give aspiring models examples of the top 3 tips I have acquired as a contender for America’s Next Natural Model 2012.
To begin I have had the pleasure of having wonderful products/ merchandise to “show off” but this will not always be the case as the over all purpose is to sell the merchandise no matter what it is, be it a dazzling cocktail dress,…..or a moo moo!

Tip # 1
Excuses are not an option! At the end of the day you are doing a job, on time with no exceptions. Once you have agreed to do so in order to keep it professional and get future jobs with the client.
Tip # 2
Show life in your eyes. If you have heard the saying “the eyes are the gateway to the soul” its true. It can also be a key to your current mood (which should be hidden while working). Practice working your eyes in a manner that reflects.
Tip # 3
Loosen Up! The Tin Man already had his moment to shine in the movie The Wizard of Oz, so make sure not to appear stiff in your shoot. This is not flattering and will in turn make you appear rigid and cold. Relax.
Knowledge is key to being successful in anything we are passionate about!
These tips are key to starting on a road of success with your future jobs as a model. It is all about selling yourself so that you get the chance to sell the products time after time. For this challenge I took the merchandise at hand into full consideration and in the first look I wanted to have all the focus on the fabulous bib necklace. So I felt that matching it with a plain black tank and basic skinny jeans was ideal. For the second look, a fabulous cheetah print hat, had to be worn with a little attitude and sass to get the point across. I felt this look needed more than the basics so the pics were taken as I was in a runway walking motion towards the camera. Over all it was yet another fun filled challenge! If you focus on the above tips you will be well on your way!
