Afro State of Mind Giveaway
This week we have more than one winner. Yes you read right we have TWO! Why? Because the beautiful Lurie Daniel Favors couldn’t decide between the two comments that warmed her heart. So the author herself decided to giveaway two books. And the winners are:
Cisha Mitchell comment:
My soon to be 13 year old step daughter attends an all white school where she is only one of 3 black children. Recently it has come to light the stark reality of ‘hair abuse’ which has been going on within her school and community and just how deeply ashamed she has become to wear or even have her hair any any style which may show off her ‘blackness’. She has even resorted to wearing her hair up in a bun (which is falling out due to bad relaxers, bad hair straightening and a lack of hair treatments and maintenance) and sticking a ‘pony’ on top which simply does not look good. I feel this book will help her start to come to terms with her hair as a representation of who she is and to help her learn to love herself as a young black girl and not to feel ashamed of who she is. I also feel that this book will allow ongoing discussions to take place between us as a family but more importantly with her own mother.

I would love this book so I can read it and so my youger sister can read it. So she can be proud of who she is. I’ve been going natural for 6 years now and they think I was crazy for doing it. I started locking my hair for a year now. And I couldn’t be any happier
