There were not many forums or sites truly dedicated to natural hair care. I was looking for any site that would be helpful in my hair care journey. I first subscribed to Nappturality.com. I was excited to find another online resource with Going-Natural.com. Besides the hair care tips, I would look forward to seeing the contestants on America’s Next Natural Model.

I first went natural in 2002, but I wore my hair straight. I permed my hair after the birth of my first son in 2004.

   
Relaxed Hair

My second natural hair care journey began in January 2008. I had dry scalp and it could no longer take the chemical burns. My last perm resulted in red patches on my scalp. I thought someone set my scalp on fire. My hair also thinned out due to my PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) condition.

I cut off my perm for the last time. I had no idea how to style the 4 inches of natural hair, but I was free from the chemicals.

In my 10 years of being natural, I have tried every rod set, braid out, bantu knot and numerous other styles natural hair offered. I felt like I had mastered the natural hair game.

Natural Hair Styles

At 39, I gave birth to my second son. Time was now a luxury and I needed an on-the-go easy hairstyle. I was ready to embark on a new journey – Sisterlocks. I had stalked YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and Sisterlocks.com for years. I have always loved locs but did not have the courage to get them- until now. In September 2017, I decided to take a leap of faith and scheduled a consultation. On December 3, 2017, 409 Sisterlocks were born.
