It was already three years ago when I started to prepare my hair for locs. Time surely flies when you’re having fun because I haven’t had a bad hair day and all of a sudden my hair is thick, full and shoulder length. This is probably the easiest hair journey I have been on. So far so good!
I remember a day when someone with long dreadlocks was looking at my braids like what are you doing? You could see my scalp then so my hair looked thin. Still even at that time I felt good and answered: we all got to start somewhere. As with my natural hair journey, I truly enjoy every stage.
Funny thing is, I love the fact that my hair seems to grow like weed and I look at lock sculptures like wow, soon I will be able to wear my hair like that. On the other hand though, I have to get used to hair this long because my strands gets in the way.
Although my hair is very well loced by now, somehow I can’t go to sleep without having my hair braided. I thought that only naturals with big hair had that issue. I would rather leave my hair in pikanini braids all day than take them out for no reason and go to sleep with loose hair before I was loced. I just didn’t like combing my hair out and my all types of 4 grades strands loved to hug each other. I would only detangle in the shower until I came up with the No More Knots. That was a life saver.
Now I have to get my hair out of my face all the time. Since I don’t like to tie it up, braid it or style it, I either wear a head band or just tie a not to keep the hair back. That doesn’t work when I go to bed though. This thought me something new: a cornrow to the front.
I was never a master in cornows and I will never be but I can make this cornrow, braided from back to front, in no time. No, most of the time it doesn’t look very neat or even professional but I get a good night sleep and that is what it’s for. For maintenance I still only use the Scalp Conditioning Spray which keeps my scalp healthy and probably speeds up the fast hair growth. For the rest of the time, I truly enjoy my braidlocs Hope you enjoy he video!
