First I washed my hair with the Going Natural Herbal Shampoo. It cleanses my hair without stripping the coils so my hair doesn’t feel so dry after shampooing.
After washing while my hair was still wet, I just took manageable parts, without caring for nice parts, to untangle. To smoothly untangle I dipped the Denman Brush in the Silky Shea Hair Butter first then started at the ends and worked to the scalp. The advantage of this method is that not only is your hair untangled, it is completely moisturized as well.
After untangling a section I made a loose twists. This way a stylist can easily start working on your hair without loosing time untangling. When you take the loose big twists out the hair is fluffy and easy to braid.

I met Riqui at the first BAM Fair I ever attended. She was handing out flyers. As I was looking for styling options I asked her tons of questions. We soon met again and she gave me a copy of her book Braid Sculpture with incredible styles. I was fascinated by her work and booked an appointment not too long after.
Since then I have been to Riqui quite often. Sometimes I would just say, please do whatever you feel like but the last couple of times I would think about a style. When I saw the style she did for my friend, I was reluctant to tell her the style I had in mind this time because my friend’s hairdo looked so amazing.

I just wanted her to do her own thing but she persuaded me to tell her what I had in mind. Ok then, I wanted a combination of cornrows or flat-twists with some kind of asymmetric afro in the middle, a curly fro forelock. O boy, I can’t say that I have ever been happier with a hairstyle.
A pattern of Master Braider Riqui Did It
Riqui outdid herself once more. My hair was braided in cornrows around my scalp in different patterns. The right side had a flowery pattern, while the cornrows on left side had an arch form all the way to the back. The loose part was twisted initially to create curls and volume.
I had endless fun with this hairstyle. It was as so versatile, I just couldn’t get enough. I felt like I could do anything with the loose hair and I would have a great new unique style. Priceless!
I rolled it from the back to the front and left the front loose in the last picture but I also rolled it from the front to the back. Want to see how that looked? Come back next month.
It took Riqui about 3 hours to do this style and it lasted for 3 weeks. To keep the style neat you should sleep with a cap. To keep the scalp clean you can use Sea Breeze and use a moisturizer sparingly.
