In high school, I remember feeling so nervous on Valentines Day. I wondered if the boy that I had a crush on was going to say something sweet to me, or if I would get a gift. Meanwhile, I watched everyone around me wearing pink and red as they flaunted their presents.
Last year was my favorite year for Valentines day. I was in college, away from home, and I received a Valentines Day care package from my grandparents! It was my first gift on Valentines Day besides candy and it made me feel so blessed to be thought of.
Getting a gift from my grand parents instead of a boyfriend showed me that Valentines Day is about showing a person you care about how much you love them.
For this photo shoot, I wanted to portray the sweetness, romance, and bliss, of Valentines Day.
I also wanted to look joyful with bright and soft smiles. Since the theme is a “Wedding on Valentines day”, I imagined my wedding as a very sensual and warm occasion, so I selected a setting outside of the State of California’s Capitol, in a lush park. I also visualized plenty of red, white, and pink flowers because they are a very popular gift for Valentines Day and they add a touch of sweetness to each picture.
Because I am only nineteen years old, I’ve had very few serious relationships and haven’t been married. However, I have my own fantasy wedding in mind.
When I took these pictures, I tried to channel how I want to feel on my wedding day.
On my wedding day, I want to look and feel internally happy about the man I planned on spending the rest of my life with. I also want there to be a blissful, serene, and romantic ambiance on the day of my wedding.
I absolutely adored the bridal headpiece because it wasn’t a typical white veil, plus, the added beads in the front made it look very ethnic.
At first, when I applied my make up and put on my dress I felt pretty, but when I put on the veil and held the flowers, I really felt ready to walk down the aisle to see my soul mate! I loved the layers of the veil that allowed me to cover my eyes, pull it out, or pull it back. Red lace is certainly the most seductive material to wear, and I’m sure my groom would be impressed!
Typically, when people think of bridal hairstyles, they envision straight and long hair. For the hair style, I wanted to prove that natural hair is a suitable option for weddings. My hair is neither, straight or long. So I had to be really creative when coming up with the style.
On a wedding day, the hair style should always be functional with the veil. Since, I didn’t want too much hair out for a wedding, I decided to braid up the back and the sides, and twist up the top.
This experience was a fun one for me, but it also enabled me to see and understand the process and preparation that a bride must encounter in order to look and feel like the woman she wants to be when she says yes to her groom, on their special wedding day..
