Allyson Raymond Challenge 5 - The Going Natural Style Challenge, America's Next Natural Model natasha, tropical, twist 0
With challenge 3, the style that I chose to display is the twisted knot set, with a tropical twist. Shorter hair can sometimes leave us feeling as though we have less options in styling diversity. This causes a need to be creative. With shorter hair, this is where hair accessories and creativity come into play. This is a style that even those of us with short hair can wear.
“Tropically Twisted Knots”
ANNM: Challenge 3
With challenge 3, the style that I chose to display is the twisted knot set, with a tropical twist. Shorter hair can sometimes leave us feeling as though we have less options in styling diversity. This causes a need to be creative. With shorter hair, this is where hair accessories and creativity come into play. This is a style that even those of us with short hair can wear.
This style is very easy to achieve. It is one that can be accomplished from right at home with the appropriate products to aid. Below you will find the outlined steps taken as well as products used to help achieve the look that you see modeled in the photos.
To achieve the twisted knots, you have the option of starting with dry or wet hair. For best results start with wet hair or hair that has been freshly moisturized. An excellent hair moisturizer to begin with is Going-naturals curly hair milk. Make sure that the hair has been detangled and combed through and is ready to be styled accordingly.
Step 1
: For a natural look do not part the hair. Simply grab 1-2 inches worth of hair (for shorter length) with your hands. The amount of hair sectioned to twist will be larger for longer and fuller hair. To achieve this style with longer hair, the knots will have to be a larger size
Step 2
: Once the desired amount of hair has been set. Apply a small dab of going natural’s herbal hair gel to your finger. (This will help hold the twist as well as give your hair a curly hair pattern upon undoing the knots later for a completely different style known as the twist out). Begin to twist the hair in the manner that you would to create a two strand twist. This will be achieved by separating the amount of hair grabbed in two and twisting it tightly from the root, all the way down. This will appear as an individual twist when accomplished.
Step 3
: Take the twisted piece of hair and rotate in a circular coil-like motion. Continue steps 2-3 all over the entire head, until the whole head is complete with twisted knots. For a shorter length, this will take approximately 1hr-1 1/2 hrs. Once the whole head is completed, let the hair dry and styling aids dry (air or blow-dryer).
Step 4
: Once the hair is dry for a more conservative look, wear as is. For added shine, lightly apply Argan hair serum as sold in the Napp Shop. For a night-time or more dramatic look that is sure to turn heads, add that extra flair by adding hair accessories such as feathers strategically in between knots (as pictured) , flowers or hair studs positioned in the hair.
Good luck with styling. Twist and shout!!!
