On Wednesday, Feb. 4th I went to Taliah Waajid’s Natural Hair Salon in Atlanta, GA. The salon was recommended by the book, Textured Tresses. The book also has a helpful chapter on what to expect for a natural hair consultation. I liked the organization of the shop.
1. see receptionist
2. fill out consultation form(similar to a new patient form for doctors, lol)
3. see hair specialist/stylist
I spoke with LaJoyce Waajid, daughter-in-law of Taliah Waajid. LaJoyce went through the form asking about my concerns, past, present and future goals for my hair. She was througouh in care and maintenance. When she asked how I found the salon, I instantly pulled out the book and showed her their listing! I was taken aback that she was surprised. (I figure she would know since she is family now)
However, she spoke to me about placing a appointment and prices. I love up-front prices!! Again, the salon was organized. She told me about their Protective Mist Bodifier that helps retain moisture. I passed on it during our consultation because I felt that it was gimmicky to talk about a product when I wanted a consultation.
I made a appointment for a trim and comb twist later that evening.
The book also tells you to “go with your gut feeling” about hair salons. I felt a little on the fence about TWNHS(shortened up) because I’m skeptical by nature anyway. But, the salon over all, is good. They also have seminars and classes on natural hairstyling(so helpful!). My hair turned out wonderfully thanks to Wiyo(the stylist) and LaJoyce.
