She started relaxing her hair at the age of 12 because her hair was thick and unmanageable. A relaxer transformed her hair in silky straight strands. Yet, she never believed she had bad hair. Sounds familiar?

This beautiful natural reminds me of a student I once met in Holland. She told me: I never had a problem with my hair or believed I had bad hair. When I turned 14 (or 16) my mom said I am just going to perm your hair so that you will never have a problem.
When responded but doesn’t that imply that your hair is a problem without a perm? She was visibly shocked and got silent because she realized that it did.
I am certainly not saying that everybody who perms thinks she has bad hair but what I notice a lot is that many of us think we have no problem with natural hair but then some statements are made that are contradictory. What do you think about this?
