there’s a countless amount of black women who don’t realize how beautiful they are naturally.
Gloria Smith Miss Gee is is a twenty-four year old Piscean artist and writer, born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. In April of 2006, she fought her insecurity head-on with a pair of scissors and never looked back.
Once plagued with low self-esteem bred by her surroundings, Miss Gee grew to love everything about herself both inside and out after going natural, changing her mindset for the better.
Then she began to see what many conscious naturals saw: there’s a countless amount of black women who don’t realize how beautiful they are naturally, there’s many who don’t know how to maintain naturally-kinky hair, relaxers can affect one’s health in various ways, naturals aren’t equally represented in the media, and there’s many misconceptions about natural hair. This sent Miss Gee on a quest to both educate and promote natural beauty through various mediums such as art, writing, and print in trendy styles that would catch the viewer’s attention.
In February of 2007, she launched Nappy Star (now known as Afro Glitz), the first social networking website that catered to naturally kinky-haired women. In April of 2009, she launched Afro Glitz Magazine, a magazine that focuses on various topics like the arts, entertainment, natural hair, and life in general. She vows to promote natural beauty to the grave.
