Getting rid of Relaxer
I have a short relaxed hairstyle and I am wanting to go natural. The problem is this… I have very thin over-processed edges. I have tried all the slathers and nothing seems to be working to get my hair to grow back on the sides and in front.
So in essence I have two questions… 1)what do you recommend to help with getting my edges to grow back and 2) what is the quickest way to get the relaxer out of my hair. I have been washing and conditioning my hair once a week and not using any heat on it. What more can I do? Thanks in advance for any help you offer.
Answer
Very thin, over processed edges, can be a temporary condition of your hair being stressed out or it could be that your hair follicles have been permanently damaged; in which case no topical products can reverse the damage.I would recommend going to see a Dermatologist to determine if your situation is temporary or permanent.
If it is temporary, you can use the product line Nioxin or try something natural like Khamit Kinks Medicinal Oil or Jane Carter’s Scalp Nourishing Serum. If it is permanent, then you want to make sure you don’t exacerbate your condition by adding undue stress to your hairline with any style that will pull the hair there. The only quick way to get rid of a relaxer is to cut it off. Short of that, it really depends on how fast your hair grows. You can wear you hair in braids, twists, or weaves and cut off an inch or so of your relaxed hair in between styles each time you take your hair out. That is the most seamless and painless way to go.
