Overall the Roc A Natural Expo is a great concept because more than just natural hair, it has wellness and health incorporated. The space was beautiful. One of the best locations I have seen were a natural hair expo was hosted. A nice spacious building with high ceilings and lots of light nearly everywhere. That was perfect.
There was enough of a variety of vendors to make the expo an interesting one. From all natural sanitary napkins to nutrition specialists, from tshirts to hair and body products as well as a booth where you could get a massage from a brother with healing hands. My only regret of this day is that I didn’t get him to do my shoulders. Too much running around.

What was really nice were the classes on health, finance, natural hair and vegan food but also a Self-Love Workshop. Unfortunately I didn’t make it to the presentation but a few of the kids I spoke to truly appreciated that part. That was lovely.
What I did see was the black and white silent film of April Mabry named #WhatIsBeauty. The short movie follows the singer Goapele on a beautiful day in LA. In the Q&A filmmaker Mabry explained that she was getting inspiration from the environment before ending up in the chair of a hair salon. It is a really nice short that does raise questions about how we value beauty. The audience was engaged and luckily Miss Mabry was there all the way from LA to answer questions. That was a treat.
One of the best parts of Roc A Natural was the free food. Not because it was free, because it was good!
Going Natural How to Fall in Love with Nappy Hair, my first book is still a favorite. The Going Natural products are available at WhatNaturalsLove.com.
We did have to wait a long time before there was food. I helped myself with grapes, nuts that Dorcas, the organizer had in her presentation room and all the Sambucus Gummies that I could find in my goody bags. There were a lot of gift bags.
However, it was not because I am hungry, the food was just exceptionally good. Not the usual fried or jerk chicken but really good vegan food from the V-spot. Hadn’t heard from them before but it’s a place I will soon be visiting.
Mother’s who visited sure enjoyed the expo. The new products, the vendors as well as the classes.
