I have learned so much about being a natural model as a Miss Nappturality Contestant for the America’s Next Natural Model (ANNM) 2009 competition. Each week a challenge was presented and each model was given a deadline to complete each challenge. Challenge 5 was during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and all the contestants were given an extra day and deadline. The deadline was Monday, November 28, 2009 00:00 hours. In the craziness of the holiday’s I misunderstood the deadline to be Monday, November 28, 2009 at 11:59 pm.  I was traveling out of town and was expected to return Monday morning so I thought I had plenty of time to get my entry in. Unfortunately I discovered I missed the deadline for challenge 5, which ultimately lead to my departure of the ANNM Contest. I really hated the fact that I had to leave early but I did enjoy every minute of the competition.
 
The easiest and fun aspect of the pageant was the photo shoot, but this was also a challenge as well. I had to make sure my photos were professional just in case one of them was selected for advertising a product. The most challenging aspect of the pageant was the essay portion. I really had to put much thought into each essay to ensure that my point came across to those who are reading the essay. Also grammar and spelling were very important as well. Not only was the pageant fun and challenging at the same time, but I also got a chance to try out some awesome products in the process.
 
As a contestant, I received a box of products, which were to be used during each challenge. I actually loved all the products, but some of my favorite products were the following:
·      The Twist and Curl Potion. This product worked really well and made my curls pop.
·      The Jamaican Mango and Lime Leave in Moisturizer.  This stuff really moisturized my hair, which is really important to me because my hair is very dry.
·      Ancient Blends Hair and Scalp oil. This product has such an awesome smell and smells of Lemongrass which is my Favorite!
·      Khamit Kinks Anu’s Body Butter. This is an all-natural product that moisturizes the skin. My skin needs extra moisture, especially during the winter months.
 
All in all I really hate that I had to depart the contest early based on a small mishap from my own doing; however I wish the rest of the contestants much luck and continue having fun!  This was really an awesome experience for me.
