Sisterlocks Grid Pattern : Loc count varies according to hair density, the size you want your locs to be as well as the size of your head. Typically  women with Sisterlocks can have anywhere from 250 to more than 800 Sisterlocks. And yes, they both have Sisterlocks installed by certified consultants/trainees.

The number 400 is used as an average among many Sisterlockers in the online community. But, it is just that – an average. I have 310 Sisterlocks, and I love my hair. I was never concerned about the number, only the look. My consultant initially was concerned that she did not install enough Sisterlocks on my head. However, she explained that my small head and thin hair texture accounted for a lower number of Sisterlocks. Now that I’ve taken the Sisterlocks Retightening Class and I am in the midst of retightening my own head, I’m coming to appreciate that 310 Sisterlocks is a LOT of locs!

When considering the number of Sisterlocks:

 

Think about the way you want your Sisterlocks to look. Do you want super tiny, micro locs, or do you prefer larger-sized Sisterlocks? Make this clear to your consultant or trainee.

Discuss your hair texture, density and head size with your consultant or trainee. A lower density will account for fewer Sisterlocks, while a higher density calls for more Sisterlocks, especially if you want very small locs. Your texture might make your locs appear to be larger or smaller than they are. And of course, your head size determines the amount of hair on your head and the amount of locs you will have.

Do you plan to maintain your own Sisterlocks? If you do, you should consider getting a number of locs that you have time to reasonably maintain. If you don’t want to maintain your hair, how long do you want to sit in the chair to get a retightening? How far do you have to travel to get your retightening? How long does it take your consultant to retighten? I think you will agree your time is precious.

Lastly, make sure you have a knowledgeable, certified consultant or trainee. As long as the person who installs your locs is certified and experienced with installing Sisterlocks, she will follow the guidelines she has been instructed, including the grid and pattern appropriate for your hair type. The number of Sisterlocks will not matter.
