It’s been a while since I visited and blogged about the largest hair and beauty show I’ve ever been to but I wouldn’t want to miss this one for the world. Not only is the International Hair and Beauty Show New York over 100 years old, the beauty business has tremendously changed and I am happy to say, to my liking. According to StraightsTimes celebrity hairstylist Nick Arrojo predicted this year to be about embracing your natural texture!

 

Nick Arrojo who performs magic by cutting models live on the biggest stage says “People are wearing their head curly, they’re wearing their hair natural. We used to live in a completely straight world. Now we’re living in a world, where we’re encouraging texture, movement and curl.” 

As the longest running natural hair blog, going-natural.com has not only seeded but also propelled this change. After 15 years of blogging, America’s Next Natural Model, the Pursuit of Nappiness, Bad Hair Uprooted, Black Follicles Matter and WhatNaturalsLove, it will be great to see how the world of beauty is now embracing natural hair.  

Black businesses are usually a small minority at this overwhelming event but absolutely worth covering so of course I will be on the lookout for them. Since it’s hard to keep up with all the natural hair care brands on the market today, I really look forward to see the ones who made it to the IBS this year. I hope to discover new lines, feature the natural hair innovations and add the best brands to WhatNaturalsLove.com, the marketplace for natural hair and black beauty.

I can’t wait to see the sophisticated appliances the magazines have been talking about and wonder if there are any available for locs and natural hair. I am a sucker for scalp massagers and already have a good one but a steamer to deep clean locs would be a dream come true.
