What is your dream gig?
My dream gig would be to be featured on the covers of the top beauty magazines. More specifically, to be the breakthrough beauty that is featured in not only Afro-centric magazines such as “Sophisticate’s Black Hair Styles” and “hype hair” but also to be featured in more mainstream hair and fashion magazines such as “Elle” and “InStyle”.
Why do you think you are right for the job?
My father once told me that, “ones place of birth is merely a game of chance; what matters then is how one plays the hand that life has dealt he/she. I believe that I am the right person for the job because I embody the attributes that are considered marketable in today’s fashion place that is brains, beauty and an acute sense of style. In a nutshell, at the end of the day it is the journey that matters most, together with measurable progress in realizing ones dream.
What makes you special compared to the other models & why should they hire you?
That which makes me special as judged against all others is the fact that I seek no outside professional help in preparing for the tasks at hand. My hair (locs) and make-up is 100% done by yours truly. The selection of attire is in accordance to my personal taste and is from an existing collection and finally, the submitted photographs were orchestrated and produced by a family member and I (neither of whom are professional photographers). Still, perhaps the most intriguing, and certainly the reason why I should be hired is the fact that I am able to produce a professional looking portfolio that is in line with the spirit of the competition (a showcase of natural beauty and hair without the use of chemicals) that can be easily duplicated by those I hope to inspire through my work.
What do you want people to know about you?
I am a person who understands that the phrase, “beauty is pain”, no longer belongs in our vocabulary as I (as do others) have discovered that there are many natural alternative products on the market today that do as good a job, if not better, as the chemicals of yesterday employed by our predecessors. That I am a true believer in the school of thought that emphasizes nature’s answers to our beauty needs, that is to say, beauty need not be painful. That I have ditched the chemicals and am happier, healthier and feel more beautiful than I have ever felt in the past.
Which one of the pictures is your best shot and why?
I absolutely love all my photos, but my favorite is the first picture in the green and black dress because I truly believe that it represents me. I have a natural look that is very feminine and chic that stands out; a true portrait of my everyday life.
