Brooklyn, New York — August 8, 2018 — On August 18, 2018 Locks of Nu Natural Hair Spa will celebrate 15 years of service with a free community celebration. This celebration not only marks a milestone anniversary but also celebrates the salon’s grand re-opening since its recent move into a larger space that mirrors the vision of the salons growth. The new salon space is located at 2000 Fulton Street in Brooklyn, NY.

The Celebration
Locks of Nu Natural Hair Spa has grown from one or two stylist to a team of six each with a unique flair for tapping into the natural beauty of their clients. For this anniversary celebration, the Locks of Nu crew will collaborate to celebrate the this milestone occasion under the theme of carnival from around the world entitled “Be Bold, Make A Statement, (HAIR)us.” The evening begins at 7:30pm with a Gratitude Reception designed to show appreciation for all of the loyal customers who continue to patronize the business for the past 15 years. At 9pm we will begin the performance and hair show hosted by renowned spoken word artist Iyapiphany and featuring performances from Brooklyn’s own B Polite, Self Dialect and recent Brooklyn arrival Nadia Rochelle.
The hair show will feature models from Kaios International, a local mas camp who will share some of their costumes for 2018 West Indian Day Carnival. For more about Kaios International, visit their website at http://www.kaiosnyc.com/
The show will also feature children’s carnival costumes by Giselle Fritz & Associates and local elected official Council Member Robert Cornegy of the 36th City Council District as a featured hair model.
The night will continue with the sounds of renowned DJ’s DJ Ian Friday and DJ Sabine Blazin of Oya Sounds until 2AM.

DJ Sabine’s work focuses on the exposure and pleasures of African diasporic music. Brooklyn Mecca, Cumbancha, and Oyasound are a few of her creative projects. Over the years, Dj Sabine’s mainstay and cultivation has been the monthly event Brooklyn Mecca which has been coined the home of “Grassroots Dance Culture”. Sabine worked for Ocha Records label as a Brand Marketing Director/Producer and Bembe NYC Party resident DJ. She was also the resident DJ for Subrosa’s signature monthly party Cumbancha featuring African inspired rhythms of House, Soul, Latin music and more. Sabine is now a resident DJ for Fania Records’ Fania Collective.
