Being natural has made me a healthier person, once I became more conscious of what I did to my hair and the products I used, I also became conscious about other aspects of my life. Being natural has taught me patience, diligence, and humility.
First I just want to apologize for missing challenge 9 and turning in this challenge late, I have switched jobs and things have been hectic. I am honored to have been chosen as a contestant in the Miss Nappturality contest. I decided to wear my hair naturally because everything else about me is natural and processed hair just does not fit into the lifestyle I live. I am vegetarian, I do not drink, and I do not smoke, and I do not wear make-up because it breaks my face out (Mr. Wilbur). I only have one life and one body so I want to take care of myself as best I can. I have been natural for so long that it has really became a part of who I am. I believe in going with the flow, I let my hair be itself, and as a result it is healthy and happy, and so am I. Being natural has made me a healthier person, once I became more conscious of what I did to my hair and the products I used, I also became conscious about other aspects of my life. Being natural has taught me patience, diligence, and humility.
When I entered this contest I was not sure what I wanted to get out of it, however, as it progressed I began to realize that it was more then a personal journey, it was less about me, and more about what other people were learning from me about natural hair. As someone who has been natural all my life, I take my hair for granted sometimes; reading the stories of the other contestants and participating in the challenges helped me to fall back in love with my hair. I do not think that modeling is my calling, but I am definitely interested in providing information, and inspiration for those who are natural and considering going natural. My experience in this contest has been invaluable and if I motivated at least one person to become natural it would be worth more then 1000 dollars.
For my last look I choose something that was representative of my personal style, creative, cute, and comfy. I like to look good but I also like to be functional, so I decided to go with a simple wash and wear style that can transition from day to night.
The product I liked the most was the satin pillowcase, I think that it was the most useful and universal product, it is something that every natural needs. Most people will buy hair products, and hair accessories, but I know very few people who have invested in a satin pillowcase. I had never tried a satin pillowcase before the challenge but after I slept on it, I couldn’t sleep without it. A satin pillowcase is definitely worth using and investing in if you want healthy hair.
Once again I want to thank the judges, going natural.com, Eden Body Products, the rest of the sponsors, the other contestants and of course the readers, once again for this opportunity to be in the Miss Nappturality contest.
