Challenge 4 has been the most challenging so far. This week we are actually modeling jewelry. Since I’m not a photographer, my biggest problems have been with lighting and the camera settings.
But that’s not to say that the quality was the best.
Anyway, I’ve been playing around with different lighting – both artificial and natural, as well as different backgrounds, distance and proximity, etc. I think I’m getting the hang of it. We’ll see.
I really wanted to do these pictures myself with the timer, but it just would not work.
A really good friend of mine volunteered to help. Thanks Nicole! We took lots of pictures and the lighting and clarity were definitely better.
Next was the really hard part. Not only did I have to choose the best quality pictures, but also the ones that best captured both the jewelry and me. I mean, it is all about the jewelry right? But the model has to look good wearing it too. It’s not as easy as some might think. To be conscious of every detail at all times is a real workout. Not to mention keeping the person taking the pictures just as focused.
So now it’s time to sell some jewelry.
Most of my shots are side profile shots, simply because I wanted to make sure both the earrings — well at least one earring — and the necklace were clear and easily seen. Each time I posed, I tried to imagine myself as the buyer and what it would take for me to want that product.
I had a ball making-up and modeling these pieces. Afterwards I went out to eat with a friend and received so many compliments [on the jewelry] from people who had no idea they weren’t mine.
Shoot, they had no idea I was even in a contest!
Hope I get to keep them.
