I stopped relaxing on October 22, 2008. I just woke up one day and thought, “Man, this stuff is seriously damaging. It even says on the box, ‘Can cause blindness!'” So, I decided to transition. I got Dominican blowouts from time to time and then switched to weaves, braids, and twists. In April 2009, I hacked all my relaxed ends off.

What was the hardest part of your journey?
The hardest part was definitely the beginning. My hair was dry and wiry and felt as if it would never be able to hold moisture. I would wake up with shrunken hair and I would cry! I felt that I looked like a boy. But I got over it and kept taking care of my hair.
And the best part?
Now I guess. My hair is longer and more versatile. It holds moisture now and feels amazing!
What did your hair journey teach you?
It taught me how to be patient.
Describe your worse hairdo and your best hairdo and please include a picture if you can.
I never had a bad hairdo since I wore my hair in a puff or afro, but I have my best! Everyone calls it my “Judy Jetson” look:
