Colorful and Untamed

Colorful and Untamed

Challenge 4The first few moments of a photo shoot are always the most intimidating for me… I don’t fit into a box or a category, I am colorful and untamed, changing with each life event and situation, and always producing something different.

Challenge 4

Those first few moments in front of the bright lights and camera send tons of questions into my mind. How do I give him what he wants? How do I make each shot beautiful and unique? How do I make sure that who I really am comes through this makeup, these clothes?

Having a photographer or customer give me limited instructions is a situation that I have been in many times before. However, even in situations when we have discussed concepts or ideas in depth, ahead of time, once we come together and begin our project, the finished product will be a combination of who we are as artists more so than any theme.

A call from an agency that allows me to simply do me is actually liberating. My self is a “role” that I have been practicing for my entire life. One I am always preparing for and becoming better at.  As I stand before the camera, with each close of the shutter I get more relaxed. The more comfortable I get, the more the real me shines through. The more I slip into this role.

My secret weapon for photos, are my eyes, and they are an extremely powerful tool. The eyes are what make my pictures special. They are usually the first thing people notice when viewing my photos. My eyes seal the mood, tell entire stories, or throw a twist in the theme. They are the windows where my personality shines through.

I believe that individuals are complex. So even if I spent a week doing shoots where I was allowed to be myself: expressing my own moods and doing my own styling, each shoot would be different. I can go from girly, to preppy, a diva or a tomboy, or a combination of any of these. This is what I do from day to day. I don’t fit into a box or a category, I am colorful and untamed, changing with each life event and situation, and always producing something different.
