I decided to go natural since May 2010. I transitioned for 6 months. After doing protective style after protective style I settled on Senegalese twists for the last 3 months of my transition. On 27 Nov 10 I did my BC. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve made thus far.
I went natural because I’d come to the end of the road in the perms, weaves and braids. I was looking for something new and wanted to revisit going natural after my failed attempt to do so in 2006.

What was the hardest part of your journey?
The hardest part of my journey would have to be my need/want to know my Natural hair. As I stated before I had Senegalese twist in for the last 3 months of my 6 month transition. During that time some had cleverly fallen out (with a little couching from my hands) and I had taken full liberty of co-washing the small portions that were free. I wanted to see my natural hair so bad it was hard transitioning. In the end I had 25 Senegalese twist in my bathroom pantry and had been co-washing the entire nap of my hairline.
And the best part?
The best part was when I was able to do my first flat twist. I had been watching so many YouTube tutorials, that when I BC’d I was overly adventurous to try every hair style. Unfortunately, my hair wasn’t long enough and I settled quite comfortably into my TWA. Then as if it were magic I tried one day to get a flat twist. This was the happiest day in my natural hair life. I’m sure someone out there can relate to this.
What did your hair journey teach you?
My hair journey taught me I am exactly who I say I am. I’m confident, bold, daring, and most of all independent in my thinking.
