Can you please introduce yourself; name, where you from and what is the name of your business?
I am Ahava Felicidad The Holistic Hair Healer, I am from Montclair, NJ – the Caribbean (Haiti) and South American (Colombia -Venezuela) and the name of my business is Ahava Felicidad Hair and Body.

What inspired you to start your business, when and what is your goal?
Many things and people inspired me to start my business – my main inspiration was Dr. Manuel Brown who saw what I could do with hair -found out had been doing it for others since 1986- and encouraged the start of Ahava Felicidad Hair and Body- I would have to say that clients also inspired me by coming in with needs only I could address from a holistic perspective. My practice in natural and holistic began in 2008 with Ahava Felicidad Hair and Body being born February 2010 and my goal then was to grow to serve naturals and transitioners through care, services, and custom blends in several locations across the US and internationally by way of alliances.

What do you find most challenging about running a business?
What I have found most challenging about running a business is recruitment of good people.

What makes your business and your products special?
My business and products are special because I am the creator of the world’s only hair growing sugar blends with a concept that rocks and souls! My products are mixed with candor, happiness, love, abundance and virtues that are imparted into the experience when customers or clients use them at home as well as experience in studio. My business is also very unique in that we offer hands-on care and training to caregivers, specialize in all mixed textures and provide guidance for naturals who continuously want the next level in haircare and styling with all natural products. Many are impressed by our paper towel only concept and co-wash only with Felicidad Hair Sugar and the other people’s natural products we recommend and offer to package for them. Even with our upcoming accessories line, designs are intuited by me with inspiration from many clients on the journey family and friends.

What is the most important lesson you have learned from doing business?
The most important lesson I have learned from doing business is to not take anything personal.

Have you ever been to a hair or trade show? If so where and how was the experience?
I have not been to a trade show for hair yet – just presentations and events that have been great experiences. I’m often doing hair or training so it would be nice to get to a show or two a year soon.

Do you think it’s important to have a website as a business or is it more important to have social media like facebook?
I think it is more important to have a blog and several other social media sites presence than to have a traditional website.

Where do you want to be in five years?
I love asking and being asked this question. In five years there is a lot I want to be – one focus is that I want to be in New Jersey with 5 locations, uplifting naturals, training my legacy and having increased giving to charities that support preventive health for heart disease and the arts. I would like to see myself on national television reaching millions about scalp exfoliating with my concept and products and getting WOW!!!s every second of the day.

Did you ever believe you had “bad” hair? If yes, how do you think you got that idea, when did it change and how did you change it?
Wow, a bad hair day- I have to think so hard about that because I have been doing hair so long. I would have to say no because I figure out a way to love my hair, massage daily and keep it moving to keep other inspire no matter what.

Did you ever feel ashamed of your hair? If yes, can you please share one or more moments?
Another interesting one- but easier- I felt ashamed of my hair once when I went to get a cut as a teenager and was given something totally different than what I asked for or showed in a picture. That was shameful for a few months.

What styles have you tried in the past (relaxers, Jherri curls, locs, afro etc). Which one was your favorite and why do you choose to wear this style now?
I have been relaxed, worn an afro, worn all different types of extensions and crochet as well as a few weaves and wigs.

I would choose the business feature because that coverage is valuable and publishing content never goes out of style. The link to the feature can be used over and over again and be made to look like it new news at any time. This is from my background in communications 😉

I support the idea because over the years as I have been able to read and check in I like the platform.
