During the Kroeshaar & Keti Koti Dei (Nappy Hair & Keti Koti Day), the very first headwrap competition took place. After all, headwraps are an indispensable part of our culture. They’re not just for camouflaging a bad hair day, but also, and primarily, for completing an outfit.
Unfortunately, not everyone can tie a headwrap. Tying a headwrap is an art, and that’s where the Magic Headwrap comes in. This wrap, made from top-quality jersey fabric, is an impressive 1.77 meters long and 88 cm wide. Its stretchy material makes it super easy to tie a headwrap, whether you’re experienced or have never tied one before. This competition was designed for that very reason.

Danitsha with the Blue Sun Magic Headwrap and Moreen with the plain Bordeaux Magic Headwrap initially gave a demonstration to show how easy and versatile the Magic Headwrap is to tie. They each had a different color – one plain, one with patterns.
The fact that Danitsha had just shaved her head bald, while Moreen has been wearing locs for 8 years, also shows that it doesn’t matter how you wear your hair. With or without hair, natural or not, the Magic Headwrap truly suits everyone.

The Challenge
Two volunteers spontaneously offered to try the Magic Headwrap. Neither of them had ever seen this headwrap, let alone tried it on. To play it safe, they opted to recreate the headwraps that had just been demonstrated. It was fresh in their minds, and once you master that, creativity can always follow. No sooner said than done, and truly, they did it perfectly! These two beautiful women showed within a minute how easy it is to tie the Magic Headwrap.
To demonstrate another variation, I also showed my basic Magic Headwrap style. When I’m at home, when I go to sleep, it’s a wrap you’ll almost always see me in because it keeps my locs neatly on my head, protects them, and also keeps them out of the way. If I don’t wear that wrap, sometimes a loc falls into my food or gets caught in a zipper.

The very next day, at the opening ceremony of Keti Koti Leeuwarden, I saw two beautiful women wearing the Magic Headwrap, tied and worn in their own way. It couldn’t have been more beautiful. See for yourself.
