So I have decided to finally take that natural step towards healthier hair! All of you out here who have joined this site are probably on the same hair journey as I am…which is why you join a site like this. I am looking for advice and support from other sistahs out there who have gone through the whole crazy hair scare tactics in order to have a crowning glory…only to have a brush and comb full of dead hair, over gelled baby hair to cover bald edges and hair crying out for RELEASE from chemicals, thermal abuse and weave and extension overload!!
If you are anything like me you want to finally embrace what God gave us…healthy, springy and versatile spirals and coils that can do all the right things for you if you just learn to treat them right!! So far on my quest for healthy hair I have spent in upwards of £80 here in the UK in search of the right hair products, hair help books and manuals and hair tools to get me started towards a healthy coiff. Living in Scotland, I am finding resources for black haircare very limited unless I go deep into the city of Edinburrrrgh!! I have found a few places that cater to African haircare, but they are pricey and inconvenient. I have taken to going online to do my shopping. Amazon.co.uk has several venders that can send you all you need via post, and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg either! Pleased with dat!!! I will have to work extra hard to find a good braider and African stylist once my hair gets past the short short short stage and can actually be caught up for some braids or twists. There are a few reputable stylists around but they are expensive. Guess I am gonna have to have a savings plan put together in order to get serviced!
Anyway, for the last two weeks I have been researching on how to care for natural black hair. I bought a few books from natural care experts like Lonnice Brittenum Bonner, Chicoro and Mireille Liong-A-Kong. They are great for information on how to handle our fragile hair, what products work best with our different hair types, and the basic anatomy of hair in general. It is important to know what makes up a scalp full of healthy hair, and how to maintain it on a daily basis in order to see positive results. I haven’t had virgin hair in over 25 yrs, so all of this information proved very valuable! If you want a list of the books names(if u are reading this) just hit me up with a message and I will happily divulge!!
Anyway…thanks for stopping by and taking this journey with me! I am excited to see where it ends up after 3, 6 and 12 months! I will post pictures monthly of my new growth and progress so that we can all see what results I accomplish.
Peace,
Tanya xx
