A while ago I was asked how my loc extensions looked when they were loose and if I could post pictures.It took a minute but here they are.

 

As you can see, I had a lot of fun with this hairstyle: Locs without commitment is what Maria from Twist and Curves calls them and that is truly what they are. Like other extensions, these locs are low maintenance. Especially compared to real locs where you have to be very patient when your hair goes through the different stages before they mature and can look like these extensions.

Actually, no matter your hair type, your hair will go through stages you don’t necessarily appreciate if you want to grow it. There is always that phase where it’s half this and half that and you don’t really know what to do with it.

The advantage of Loc Extensions is that you don’t have to go through that stage. There are however also disadvantages. One of the major ones is buildup between the extension and your own hair. No matter what you do, the point where the extension is attached to your hair is the perfect spot for environmental dust and product residue to collaborate and build up.

I never intend to keep the locs but if you do talk about your loctitian on how to take care of this.

Even if you don’t intend to loc your hair with extensions you have to take care of you hair. Low maintenance doesn’t mean “No maintenance”.

I used the Scalp Conditioning Spray with MSM to refresh the style and hydrate my strands underneath religiously. This is essential because if you don’t take care of your hair, your strands will get dry. Dry hair easily breaks and you really don’t want an extension coming out with your hair in it. So keeping your hair hydrated is the least you can do.

Another thing you need to do is to keep your hair clean. Even though the stylist didn’t recommend washing, I washed my hair once a week. Keeping my hair moisturized and clean made it easy to take the extensions out.
