Inspired by Istanbul, Turkey and evil eyes to protect people Hande started her own business, selling jewelry worldwide.
Can you please introduce yourself; name, where you from and what is the name of your business?
Hello everyone!
This is Hande from beautiful Istanbul, Turkey.
I loved creating things since childhood and this amazing city inspired me a lot!
Especially the evil eyes! That’s why most of my items are decorated with variety of evil eye charms.
My business name “Hande Made It” and I really love it 🙂
What inspired you to start your business, when and what is your goal?
My day time job is marketing but while I was living in Colorado for studying in 2012, I discovered Etsy and decided to make my childhood dream comes true. I started with cross stitch products such as bookmarks, funny quotes with frame… After I moved back to Turkey again, My sister Asli and I changed my shop into a jewel box! Cause we felt like we were enjoying more while we were playing with the beads!
What do you find most challenging about running a business?
I don’t like to have a 9-5 kinda jobs, that’s why I start running my own business but now I am working all day long but at least I wake up whenever I want.
What makes your business and your products special?
Evil eye jewellery is a special kind of jewellery, that can protect you from the Evil Eye / Evil Look. It is believed that the evil eye deflects the negative energy that is being directed towards a person onto itself, thus dispersing its powers.
What is the most important lesson you have learned from doing business?
Listening your customers!
Have you ever been to a hair or trade show? If so where and how was the experience?
Last summer, We attended a fair in Istanbul. I sell my jewelry abroad and it was my first time to meet Turkish customers. I was excited to watch them while they were trying to find their right piece of jewelry. It was so much fun to attend a fair but was really hard work to manage all the products, connecting with people and answer potential customer’s questions at the same time. Bring someone to help you 🙂
Do you think it’s important to have a website as a business or is it more important to have social media like facebook?
Many people are selling products on social media but I believe to have your own website is very important if you wanna run your business long term. You can support your website via social media of course, that will help a lot. But I think you should get a website for your business to feel your customer safer while shopping and they can see all your current products in an order.
Where do you want to be in five years?
I wanna grow my business enough to travel whenever I want.
About Black Natural Hair
Did you ever believe you had “bad” hair? If yes, how do you think you got that idea, when did it change and how did you change it?
Oh It was my teenage times nightmare! I have curly hair and at that time was so hard to style it. I guess I didn’t know my hair very well and how to style. I had long crazy hair since years but since I got a short haircut my life totaly changed 🙂 And Now I know how to style my hair and what products to use. Now I feel really happy if someone compliment about my hair 🙂
Did you ever feel ashamed of your hair? If yes, can you please share one or more moments?
As I said before when I was a teenager, my hair was the worst hair ever! Once we were going to my cousins wedding and I couldn’t style my hair at all, I started crying a lot because of that and now not only my hair and also my face was look horrible. I wasn’t even looking at the mirror and I had go to the wedding. I thoug everyone was looking at my hair and think how bad it was!
What styles have you tried in the past (relaxers, Jherri curls, locs, afro etc). Which one was your favorite and why do you choose to wear this style now?
I have been using basic short haircut with similar styles for years, still don’t wanna make my hair longer, it is easy that way.
