I went natural in September 2006. The main reason I went natural was because I liked the look of natural hair, and I was tired of my hair breaking off from relaxers and hair coloring. Not to mention, I was also curious of what my natural hair looked like because as long as I remembered, I have had my hair straightened. So when I did the big chop back in 2006, I didn’t know what I was going to expect.

What was the worst part of your journey?
The worst part of my hair journey is dealing with breakage, incomplete splits and hair damaged even though you think you are treating your hair like silk. Sometimes it can be really frustrating when you have to cut off several inches of progress and all you want to do is throw up your hands in anger.
However, I try to turn that negative experience into a positive situation by learning from my mistakes. I try to discover what caused my hair to become damaged and I make changes for the future. I use my setback as a way to make a comeback.
And the best part?
The best part of my natural hair journey is the freedom of natural hair. I can go outside in the rain without having to worry about my straight hair reverting back to kinky hair because it is already kinky lol! Going natural is definitely one of the best decisions I ever made.
What did your hair journey teach you?
On a less serious note, I have learned what patience really is. When I was relaxed, I thought that the one hour it took to roll my hair up in curlers and drying it was a long process! Ha! On average, it now takes me anywhere from 4-6 hour to style my hair! If only I knew then what I know now!
Describe your worse hairdo and your best hairdo.
Worst Hair
Anytime I try to curl my braids or twists, they come out looking a hot flaming mess! Lord have mercy, did you see my eyebrows in that picture too lol?!!! That definitely did not help at all!
Best Hair
I love the way my hair looks in a twist out from mini twists. Shoot, I just love the way a twist out looks period!
Looking back, has your perception of your hair or black hair in general changed?
Yes it has changed. I prefer kinky and curly hair over straight hair now. Five years ago, I would not have said this. But with the versatility of natural hair, I just can’t see myself ever going back to preferring straight hair over natural hair.
Are you a different person or do you feel different with your natural?
I am the same person I was with straight hair, but I just look like a different person. I believe that natural hair suites me more than straight hair.
What do you like about blogging and what do you hope your blog accomplishes?
I like that I get to share my journey with so many different people and also that I am helping so many people learn more about their own hair. When I decided to go natural, it was through the help of so many other women who took the time out to share their regimens, and tips on sites such as Nappturality.com, fotki.com, and through their blogs and hair albums. When I first started my fotki album (http://www.fotki.com/ms-gg) , it was in the hopes that I could give back something to the community who first helped me.
Do you follow other blogger? If so, who are your 5 favorite blogs?
Yes I do! I have a lot of favorites, but here are some of them:

What is your favorite hairstyle?
My favorite protective hairstyle is definitely the twist and my favorite “out” style is the twist out!
Can you please finish the following sentence: I love my hair because ….
