I love concocting hair recipes, so I was excited to get a challenge to experiment with products. I chose to use the shea butter as my challenge because it is a product that I have not had very much success with in my hair.
I've always heard about people using a shealoe mix, so I decided to make something like that with a little added twist. I used a bit of warmed shea butter along with some aloe vera gel and some almond oil to create a hair pomade. I ran out of gel recenlty so I needed something that I could use to slick my hair back and provide moisture at the same time without being too greasy. In my mix I used mostly aloe for hold and the shea butter added the thickness and the almond oil contributed shine. I have found that just using shea butter alone tends to make my hair feel filmly and a little dull.
–This mix ended up being perfect. I dampened my hair with water first and then I rubbed the mix into my hands until the small chunks of shea butter melted completely. Then I used a scarf to hold the little short/ broken hairs down while it dried completely. I ended up wearing the scarf out because it was raining. Once inside I removed the scarf and the pomade held well for the rest of the day. In the future I'd like to try this with twists — I confess my hair is long overdue to be washed because I've been sick–and it has been freezing here -can't wait to dunk my head in water and experiment with more styes!!!! 🙂
