As I mentioned in my hair story one of my hair goals, is to reduce dryness and dandruff. When I opened our box of challenge items and saw the Shikaki I was thinking shi- what? What the heck is this stuff ? However, after reading the back of the box and learning that it’s a natural conditioner that cleans your scalp of dirt and dandruff , I was willing to give it a try. Before starting to mix my recipe I googled and wiki’d shikakai , I found a wealth of information about what it is made from, how it is used, and positive testimonies from people who swear by it. When it came time to make my conditioner I looked around the kitchen for other natural ingredients to compliment the Shikaki. Since shikaki is called “hair fruit” I decided to compliment it with some of my favorite fruits. I used coconut oil and lemon juice mixed with water to create Zavi’s Zesty Scalp-Ade. I chose lemon because I love fresh citrus scents and it is also good for adding shine to hair . I chose coconut oil because it is a good conditioner. I felt like a mad scientist in my white robe mixing the lemon juice and water together first, then adding the Shikaki powder, and coconut oil. I mixed in a Ziploc bag, but it sprung a leak ! Luckly my mom had an extra one ready for me. Once I finished concocting my scalp-aide ,I applied it evenly through out my scalp after I parted my hair into four sections. I left my scalp-aide on for five minutes, then I washed my hair using no other products. As I washed I noticed that my scalp felt softer ,one side of my hair was detangled but the other side was not. Next time I will probably use a small amount of detangler on the kinkier side of my head. My scalp is feeling moisturized right now, but I won’t know if the Shikaki had a real effect on my dandruff until at least a week has passed. |
