Twisted Cornrows styled by:Tameeka
Although I am a DIY-er for the most part, there is no denying that a stylist can really take your look to the next level. Tameeka whom I met back in 2003 is one such a stylist. More than a stylist, she calls herself a Natural Hair Care Specialist.
In case you don’t know the difference between the two, a great stylist can give you an amazing look for a day, two or even a week. After the look wears off and you return to your normal look, you could find out that your hair is is in a worse state than before you went to the stylist.
This happens quite a lot when people go for braids. It doesn’t matter whether it’s cornrows or extensions but some stylists don’t like the fray hairs so they cut them off. It is one of the worse mistakes a stylist can make.
Sure you want your braids to look as neat as possible but I think in any case you should choose a li’l bit of frizz over a perfectly neat look that messes up your hair.
With Tameeka, I know I am in good hands. I asked her for the complete Detox Treatment that I usually do myself but her steamer absolutely gave it something extra.
My hair was clean, fresh, soft and shiny, hmmmm. It was clearly not just me who enjoyed the treatment.
One of the things I like to do, is to give a stylist the freedom to go ahead and do something out of the ordinary. Usually they ask me what I like or what I may have in mind but then I trust them and leave it up to them.
The craftiness of Natural Hairstylists is really incredible and I know my mind is limited compared to theirs when it comes to styling. So why not leave it up to a professional? The worst that can happen is that you don’t like the style. In that case you can just take the style down.
That is one of the other wonderful things about nappiness. You don’t have do dramatically cut your hair to get your hair styled out of the ordinary. Even a moderate stylist knows how to unlock the magic of your napps, kinks and coils in such a way that your style will turn heads.

Of all the stylists I went to, non of them ever disappointed me. Neither did Tameeka. After parting the hair in sections, she used a mixture of the Going Natural Styling Gel and Curly Hair Milk to start cornrowing.

The beauty of this style is the way the patterns come together at the crown. Tameeka twisted the ends and pinned them down in a way that adds to the flow of the rows.
