Sabi Wiri which means Know your Hair in Surinamese is a day I organized for the first time in 2003 after the publicaion of my first book Kroeshaar.  

 

 

Sabi Wiri which means Know your Hair in Surinamese is a Natural Hair event I organized for the first time in 2003 after the publicaion of my first book Kroeshaar. Besides a lecture I also put up a hair show together with local salons and maroon braiders. The turnout was amazing and the first ever natural hair day a huge success.

Friends told me that my first natural hair event in Suriname created awareness as ever since the first Sabi Wiri Dei there were noticeably more naturals in Paramaribo the capital city.Naturally I was exited to go back for a follow up in 2005 I organized a follow up.

It was great to be home. We celebrated Natural Hair, admired hairstyles, exchanged products and expertise and I was asked by several TV and radio stations for interviews.
