I started transitioning for the 2nd time in 2002 (the first time I failed). I went natural because I wanted to have versatility to be able to wear my hair curly or straight. I noticed when I didn’t get a relaxer for awhile, I started loving my new growth and thought it might be cool to see what my hair looks like grown out. I did my Big Chop in 2003. It’s like the best of both worlds.

When, why and how did you go natural?
I started transitioning for the 2nd time in 2002 (the first time I failed). I went natural because I wanted to have versatility to be able to wear my hair curly or straight. I noticed when I didn’t get a relaxer for awhile, I started loving my new growth and thought it might be cool to see what my hair looks like grown out. I did my Big Chop in 2003. It’s like the best of both worlds.
What was the worst part of your hair journey? And the best part?
Worst part of my journey would definitely be the in-between–half of my hair straight from relaxer and half natural. Plus it started breaking off at the line of demarcation. I had no idea what to do and trying to make the different textures match was so hard for me at the time. The best part, probably was just doing the big chop and getting it over with. I’m so glad I just sucked it up and cut it off! It worked well for me because it was stressful with the two textures.
What did your journey teach you?
My journey taught me to learn how to do my own hair. Stylists at the time couldn’t help me so it taught me to get it together and try to learn to do my own hair.
When and why did you start your channel? I started my channel in 2008 because there weren’t many naturals on Youtube at the time. I thought I might as well make my own videos on me learning how to do my own hair.
What are the best, funniest and most inspiring responses that you’ve gotten?
I think the best and most inspiring would be the people that come up to me all over the country saying either I encouraged them to go natural or I helped them learn how to style their own hair. That to me , is the best feeling. To be in Louisiana or California or New York and have people tell me I was an inspiration to them.
Do you subscribe to other channels? If so, what would you say are your top 5 favorite ones?
I don’t watch videos like I used to, but I will give you my fav from back in the day (lol as in 2 years ago) – Chiselle Couture, Mahogany Knots, SouthernTease(ManeAndChic), and thats all I can think of. I actually watch tons of makeup and fashion videos, but not natural hair videos so much since I deal with my own hair all day–sometimes I get “haired out” lol.
What do you hope to accomplish with your channel? How often do you vlog and what more can we expect?
I don’t do as many videos as I used to. I used to do maybe one every week or 2 weeks. Recently, I decided to focus more on my blog because its easier for me to write than to film, then edit, etc…I am going to get more active on Youtube though. Expect something different–my focus is to do something different since its thousands of hair vloggers now, I have to step outside the box.
We like to give our readers an idea of who you are and what your channel is about so that they can visit your channel and become subscribers. Which video should we post?
Check out my channel for detailed instructions on hairstyles. I do styles such as two strand twists, flat twists, 3 strand twists, etc…and I slow it down so you can really understand and see what I am doing. I hope you find that they are helpful.

Do you have a last word?
One piece of advice that I always give is…love your own hair. Don’t be so worried about the next girl and what her hair does/doesn’t do. When you start comparing, you lose confidence in your own hair.
