I started going natural many years ago, but returned to the perm, then finally officially became natural in 2008. I let the the perm grow out, did the big chop when i had atleast 2inches of natural hair (new growth).

When and why did you start locking?

I locked my hair in 2012; this decision was made when after 4 years of b eing natural, i realized my hair was still breaking from combing and poor treatment.

What method did you choose and why I have had sisterlocks installed in my hair?

I like the that they are small, there’s a grid/ pattern, and looks like loose hair.

What was the hardest part of your journey?

The hardest part has been, getting used to when the hair is due for a retightening to embrace the “soggy” looking hair and make it work. Also, the long time it takes to wash and care for my hair.

And the best part?

I love that fact i have close to no bad hair days and can wake up and just put a head band on and call it a day. zero to low stress about hair styles.

What did your hair journey teach you?

This journey has taught me that my hair is beautiful and is healthier without a perm as well that it can grow longer then when i did have a perm.

Describe your worse hairdo and your best hairdo and please include a picture if you can.

I h onestly can’t think of a worse hairdo (because not liking how my hair looks when it needs a retightening); best hair do is when it’s curled or up in a bun.

Looking back, has your perception of your hair or black hair in general changed? Please elaborate. I can’t necessarily say it has changed, but i feel wear your hair in the way you feel most comfortable with and take care of it; because there is no such thing as good hair, just healthy or damaged hair.

Most girls loved their first perm. Do you remember yours?Was it a special occassion, how old were you and how did you feel about it?

My sister put in my first perm when i was 16 yrs old for senior pictures. I liked it because i felt that i fit in with all the other girls in my school who already had perms. Also, at the time, it did make my hair feel softer.

 

What is your favorite hairstyle?

My favorite hairstyles will always be the bun or big curls.

i look at any video with sisterlocks.
