I went natural January 2009 because I was tired of getting relaxers and the scalp burns I would get along with it. Four months after my last relaxer I chopped off all my hair.
Name: Courtney
Location: Queens
Profession: Day Care giver by day, jewelry designer by night
What was the worst part of your journey?
I would say the initial getting use to have really short hair, I was scared to leave the house with my twa for a while and wore wigs.
And the best part?
Finally embracing my hair and seeing the versatility of it and having natural hair has lead me to meet new friends from going to events and meetups.
What did your hair journey teach you?
My hair journey taught me to have patience lol because Lord knows I need it with this head of hair. I also learned to be healthier all around, not just for my hair but for myself.
Describe your worst hairdo and your best hairdo and please include a picture if you can.
My worse hair do was when I decided to experiment with my hair with a bunch of rolls and tucks…in the end my hair looks like a camel with 3 humps lol it was terrible. My best hair do is my go to bun and bang..I love that hairstyle
Looking back, has your perception of your hair or black hair in general changed? Please elaborate.
My perception has changed. I use to say I could never go natural, I need my relaxer, my hair won’t look like that…etc. And then one day I did it and I never looked back. Black hair is beautiful and versatile!
How long have you been a member and how did you find going-natural.com?
Not for too long but I found out about this from the wonder Mireille
I love my hair because
I love my hair because ….it’s mine, it’s growing on top of my head and I embrace it!
