I let the jewelry transform me and became what I saw in the jewelry.
When I first saw the jewelry, I thought it was gorgeous. It was unlike anything that I currently own and I found it had a glamorous, dramatic, and edgy feel to it. The jewelry itself was very inspiring. It was something that I thought I could truly be transformed in. I wanted to use all these ideas and bring them to the photos in order to sell the jewelry.
I started with a very dramatic hair style, a faux-hawk. I had the sides of my hair cornrowed in different designs, and did a twist-out hawk in the middle. I felt the hairstyle was definitely edgy and dramatic. Next, was the glamour, I chose a beautiful coppery-orange dress to pair with the jewelry. I felt like the color of the dress really complemented the color of the jewelry. In a couple photos I relied on a faux-fur trimmed coat for the glamour. I wanted my make-up to be glamorous, edgy, and dramatic as well so I wore a natural lip and blush color and had my eyes “pop” with added color and definition around my eyes.
I tried to make the jewelry the focus of the pictures and my hair secondary but still beautiful. I had to be really meticulous with the placing of the earrings in the photo in order to make sure that they were seen from the front instead of the side. This proved to be very difficult because the earrings spin around quite a bit. I didn’t really smile in many of the pictures because the feel I got from the jewelry was more regal and demure than giddy but I’m not sure what the judges are looking for in the photos so I did make sure to submit a couple pictures where I am smiling.
Some of the words and images that came to mind during this challenge were, “Strong African Beauty” and “fierce”. I had a great time with the challenge and I hope that you find the pictures as successful as I hoped they would be. Please enjoy and vote for me!
