Creating my own Natural Hair Care Products Being natural has so many advantages. Like today when I was out gathering the last few ingredients to create my natural hair care products, and didn’t have a care in the world. Not about my hair anyway. It was wonderful!
For me, creating my own products poses a few challenges of it’s own. The first thing is the length of my hair. Since it’s so short, before and after pictures would not be able to tell the whole story. The other thing is that style is not my first priority at this time. The health of my hair is.
So I need to come up with a product that is essential for promoting and maintaining the health of my natural coils during my transition back to natural. Okay, one of the wonderful advantages to natural hair is convenience, right?
So I came up with a wonderfully quick fix for today’s natural people on the go. I created a cleansing hot oil treatment . That’s right! Cleanse and deep condition all in one easy step, for those days when we don’t want to neglect our hair, but don’t have a whole lot of time. There is also a complimentary, deep conditioning shampoo for those days when we do.
INGREDIENTS:
Shikakai powder 1/2 cup
Shea butter 2 tbsp
Olive oil 1 cup
Grape seed oil 1 cup
Vitamin E oil 4 oz
Coconut oil 4 tbsp
MSM 4000 mg
Frankincense and myrrh (a few drops)
lavender ( a few drops)
Thyme 1 tbsp
Sage 1 tbsp
Rosemary 1/2 tbsp
Nettle 1 tbsp
Green tea 2 tea bags
CLEANSING HOT OIL TREATMENT
Mix all the oils together in a pot
Mix all the herbs, powdered vitamins, and Shikakai powder well and pour into oil.
Stir and bring this mixture to low boil, steep, and strain.
Add the lavender and other aromatic agents to the final mixture and let cool.
Pour mixture in a large-mouthed container for easy remixing before next use.
When you’re ready to use, simply heat a little of the mixture and apply to hair, and rinse as you would any other hot oil treatment.
The end product?
Clean, soft, conditioned, shiny hair, with a light fresh scent!
Hint: And ladies, since this mixture has a slightly gritty feel, and is enriched with all these wonderful vitamins, herbs and emollients, go ahead and rub your hands together as you would any exfoliating product and rinse. Your hands will feel like silk;-)
