BAD Hair Uprooted; A NY Exhibition that Made International Headlines
Going-Natural.com teamed up with Fashion Show Producer, Stylist and Event Coordinator, Jerry Brown to produce the Natural Hair and Fashion show of 2014.
To match African Fashion and Natural Hairstyling is pretty unique. Where styles like Bantus, dreadlocks and cornrows are usually presented as an exotic anomaly in the fashion industry, these African hairdos will be featured and celebrated in the BAD Hair Uprooted show to make a statement.
Not only are Black models on the runway rare and as they call it often white girls dipped in chocolate, their hair is almost never natural. Although wigs are very common in the fashion industry, unnatural hairstyles usually are not. Besides a handful of models like Alek Wek Black models are always presented with hairstyles that are as far from their authentic texture as possible which is not true for other models.
So the Natural Hair & Fashion Show of 2014 just is not just to show the beauty of natural hairstyles but also to display the power of African strands. Natural hair is made for show and natural hairstyles are here to stay.
The founder of going-natural.com Mireille Liong named at the show after her exhibition BAD Hair Uprooted celebrating the 10th anniversary of Going-Natural.com to get rid of the idea of bad hair. With Oscar winner Lupita showing her love for and the beauty of textured tresses there is hope for change says the IT and Social Entrepreneur.
The models varying not just in hair texture but also in size will be styled by the salons are Naturally Beautiful Hair Care, Sabine’s Hallway, Khamit Kinks and Red Room Salon. The fabulous fashion designers who can’t wait to show off their new collections are the well-know Raif, Lea Mono Couture, Adovi Couture/Florian Sodji, Tafari Tribe, Underwraps Fashion.
The hair show will be held on August 23rd at the Warehouse Gallery in Brooklyn, NY at 8 pm. For tickets visit the Going Natural Events Page.
