When the challenge was presented to me, it was quite a surprise.  I didn’t think we’d be producing ads!  I briefly reflected on my college days when in Communications 101 we had to create clever ads.  I looked at the rosy pillowcase and thought to myself, my linens don’t even match this, how tacky will my pictures look!  But I love advertising, and I’m pretty creative, so I welcomed the challenge.

I was glad to receive pillowcase, as I had been meaning to get one and toss my unsexy satin bonnet which I seldom used anyway, even though my husband never disapproved (go figure, he wears a doo-rag to bed).  I thought, well if I’m getting rid of my cotton pillowcase, I have to contrast the two by making the satin one more luxurious for the ad.  I thought of ways to make the cotton one seem unuseful, shabby or just plain boring.  Maybe I can show the cotton pillowcase being used as a coaster, capturing it under a mug on my nightstand, while my satiny smooth pillowcase puts me to deep REM aka la-la land.

Naaaa– people just wouldn’t get it, I thought.  Besides, what if the focus wound up being on something unintended, like the mug?  I nixed the idea of anything complicated.  Fortunately in college I learned some graphic design, so I drew a caricature in Illustrator and came up with a little slogan and fonts that would match luxury. After that, I moved on to take the pictures using the timer of camera.
