I went natural about 12 years ago. I went natural because I was tired of the chemicals. I hated being committed to getting my hair relaxed every couple of months only to have to do it all over again.
I went natural by setting my hair on rods, getting it corn-rolled putting it into a bun or anything else to keep me from having to touch it. Finally one day I went to rod set it and decided I was ready to let go and cut off all my relaxed ends. It was the best decision I ever made!!

What was the hardest part of your journey?
I guess the hardest part was being creative with my hairstyles, but once I got the hang of it the rest was pretty easy.
And the best part?
The best part about going natural was the versatility of styling my hair. There are so many things that I can do with my hair now. I love it!!
What did your hair journey teach you?
It taught me to NEVER listen negative people. When I went natural, it really wasn’t the “in” thing to do. A lot of people would ask me why was I going back to being “nappy”. I would just ignore them because I felt someone that ignorant did not deserve an answer.
Describe your worse hairdo and your best hairdo and please include a picture if you can.
I don’t have a picture but my best and worse hairstyle was the same. I would set my hair on orange rods in a brick set, then pull the curls apart. It made the BEST AFRO EVER!!!!! But it’s downfall was that when I went to wash it, my hair was so tangled that I combed out handfuls of hair!!! It was awful!!! But the fro was gorgeous.
Looking back, has your perception of your hair or black hair in general changed? Please elaborate.
My perception was always the same. I never believed in “good or bad” hair. To me, black hair is beautiful no matter what texture it comes in.
What is your favorite hairstyle?
My favorite style is my afro because when I 1st went natural I couldn’t wait for my hair to grow so I could wear have a big afro like my mother used to wear.
