Personalizing this style is only limited by your imagination!
The first step for this style is the same as it is for any style I do: MOISTURIZE! Try spritzing your hair lightly with water, then applying a nourishing leave-in product, such Going Natural’s Curly Twist Out Hair Milk.
Second, I sectioned off some hair at my temple, and created a medium-small two strand twist. Make the twist as small or as large as you want your headband to be.
Since this twist will be front and center on your forehead, be sure to twist neatly. Using some gel (such as the Herbal Styling Gel in the Going Natural shop) is a great way to prevent frizz and make sure your twist will stay nice and neat all day long.
Once you’ve completed your twist, drape it across your forehead and pin in place at the opposite temple. Pin the end of the twist in a way so that the pin and the end of the twist are not visible. If your hair is not long enough to create the twisted headband, an easy fix is to create a twisted headband using Marley braid extension hair.
Step three is to create a French Roll. Starting from the nape, gather your hair and roll and tuck it upward, pinning the roll in place as you move along, just as you would do for a standard French Roll. The difference here is, rather than stopping at the crown of the head, continue to roll all the way the the front of your head.
The last step is to take the ends of your hair that didn’t make it into your French Roll. They should be hanging in your face, like a fringe, at this point. Take those ends and create one large two strand twist, twisting all the way down. Don’t worry about twisting tightly here- the goal is volume. When you’ve twisted to the end and your French Roll is fully secured in the back, take the end of your giant twist and pin curl it to whichever side you like- the right side, in my case.
And, you’re all done! You can make any final adjustments necessary such as camouflaging pins, or smoothing your edges and nape with a bit more Herbal Styling Gel, for a more polished look. My favorite part about this style is that it has its own accessory built into it, with the twisted headband. But, it looks great with some flashy earrings, or any other hair adornments you can think of.
