I can’t believe it’s already five months ago that I started my braid locs. There is so much going on that I hardly have time to think about my hair, let alone blog about it. The best thing about it is that I don’t have to think about it. I am happy with my hair just letting it do what it wants to do. This is the easiest hairstyle ever!
I can’t believe it’s already five months ago that I started my braid locs. There is so much going on that I hardly have time to think about my hair, let alone blog about it. The best thing about it is that I don’t have to think about it. I am happy with my hair just letting it do what it wants to do. This is the easiest hairstyle ever!Well, in all honesty, I have to admit that I had a few lessons to learn. Yes, locs are low maintenance, more specifically braid locs, microlocs of any kind are low maintenance but they still need grooming and I learned it the hard way.
You always need to separate locs after washing. The first couple of months I didn’t do this and I waited too long. Needless to say my first retighting session was horribly painful. It’s felt like when you take out your extensions after they’ve been in your hair too long.
Even after the painful first interlocking session, I still consider this my best hair style ever. Especially if you talk about maintenance. I wash once a week with my favorite Going Natural Herbal Shampoo and to prevent buildup I detox with the Rhassoul Clay once every four weeks. After every session my hair feels fresh and so light. Yes, my journey is fun. Occasionally I use the Curl Keeper to keep the ends of my locs coiled but that is really about it. 995 of the time it’s really just get up and go.
I have to say that what makes all the difference is that I am in good hands. Adinike from The Woven Wool Hair & body Experience not only patiently helped me cope with this experience, she coaches me and watches my hair closely every time she sees me.
Now I hope you don’t make the same mistake with your locs. So to give you an idea of what popping locs look like, take a look at the video. I think you should also do this if you wear braids with extensions. Popping prevents matting so it will save you a lot of agony when it’s time to take out your extensions.
