Book signing in Forestville, Maryland

December 3rd 2005 by Mireille Liong

First, I am very, very sorry that some how I missed mochalocks and Tameeka who had planned to travel with me to DC. I was late, didn't have a cell phone nor their phone numbers with me. When I arrived at the bus station about 7:35 instead of 7:15 I thought they had left already or didn't make it. On the next trip, I promise you, I will have a cell.

The trip was tripping. Not only was I stressed because I couldn't get in touch with Tameeka and Mochalocks, now I was also forced to take the bus almost an hour later, at 8:00 instead of 7:15 and I really wanted to be there on time. The bus finally left after eight something, made a couple of stops which made me more nervous and when I finally arrived in DC, I made another error of getting of the train too early because I thought I was heading the wrong way. After another eleven minutes wait, I got to the Morgan Boulevard station station as the MTA in Washington instructed to take the 24 bus to the Forestville mall. I should have listened to China though because there was NO 24 bus on Saturday's. Like she suggested the guy in the booth told me to take the J12 from Addison Road Metro Station.

By now I was quite miserable and decided to take taxi because it was already 1:35. It was suppose to be a 10 minute drive but believe it or not the driver drove straight to the mall, ACROSS the Forestville one, where karibu books is and didn't know what I was talking about. So after another extra 5 minutes I was able to run down the mall looking for the bookstore. I think it exactly 14:00 when I got there and I was so happy to see Sweet Epiphany's familiar face.

Funny thing is I couldn't place her immediately. I knew she had a familiar face, I knew I was happy to see her but this was my first time in MD, so where had I seen her before? When she started to talk I realized that we first met in Central Park , where we gathered last year to go to the free Floetry concert. Together with her was cateyesmd with a beautiful head of thick hair that is loced. It's always such a pleasure to meet people from nappturality. Their natural styles and their warm spirits never fail to inspire me. How can we thank Dee?

While I was setting the table Akenjeli and girl her twists, no her hair is tha bomb! It is the greatest compliment that she wants to have her hair braided like mine. Wow.

The one I immediately recognized from the board was mom_is_queen. Her hair which is even thicker in real life was adorned with a nice headband. than it looks in the picture and she wore some and I forgot all about the stress

Although I couldn't remember her screen name I recognized mimicutelips from the beautiful picture/avatar where she looks like a model. Her short coiled natural enhances her smile and her little one is adorable.

Then came sweet cncqtk921 who doesn't post a lot, sporting a very cute hat. Not only did she joined mom, sweet epiphany and me for a dinner in Apple Bee's, she also gave Sweet epiphany and me a ride to the metro station.

I had a great time in the bookstore, I had a great time when we had dinner and I had a great time riding the train with Sweet Epiphany. You guys made it worthwhile. It was so much fun.

The ride home was a little easier, although I had to wait 3.5 hours till 11:45 on the bus. The talented street drummers and dancers were so fascinating that I only realized that my toes were frozen after I watched them for a good hour. Black culture, music, dance or HAIR can always make a person feel good.
